This year’s
annual book sale at the Ouray Public Library will be held on Friday, July 12,
from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m., and
on Saturday, July 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., in the Ouray Community Center. The book sale will feature paperback and hardback fiction
by popular authors as well as westerns, mysteries and literary classics. The
nonfiction offerings will include biographies, computer references, cookbooks,
print design books, home and garden books and travel guides, as well as books
on a variety of other topics. Although the library does not charge a per book
fee for its used books, generosity is encouraged.

“The book sale is by donation and every dollar helps,”
explains Library Director Chris Reece. “So readers can take what they want and
give what they can.”

The two-day book sale is one of the Ouray Library’s major fundraisers. Last year’s sale raised $2,400, and this year, the Library has set a goal of raising $2,500. All money raised at the sale goes toward programs and new items for the collection. Come on Friday for the best selection and return on Saturday for the best deals. After 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, bags of books are available for just $1.00.

If you have quality books to donate to the sale, please note the following:

  • We accept all fiction books.
  • We accept all youth books.
  • We accept new nonfiction (published within the past 5 years).
  • We accept DVDs.
  • We accept audio books on CD.

And while we wish we could accept all donations, please also respect the following guidelines:

  • We do not accept coffee table or art books.
  • We do not accept encyclopedias or any textbooks.
  • We do not accept VHS or cassette tapes.
  • We do not accept dusty or moldy books.
  • We do not accept items that have been stored in attics, garages or basements.

Small donations may be delivered to the library from Monday to Friday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Please call 325-4616 to schedule any large donations.

We appreciate your support and hope to see you at the book sale!

Community health worker Katy Gibson will review your health information and discuss a healthy lifestyle plan. Appointments will be scheduled between 10:15 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. and take approximately 30 minutes.

Library Pub Night Fundraiser This Sunday, May 5

Following last year’s success, O’Brien’s Pub & Grill is once
again hosting a fundraiser to benefit the Ouray Library’s book purchases
and programs. This year’s event will feature prizes given away throughout the evening, including library book bags, adult and junior fiction, and a Nook e-reader.

“This fundraiser will help us raise essential funds,” explained
Library Director Chris Reece. “With money raised, we’ll be able to add
items to our collection as well as cover a significant portion of our
Summer Reading Program expenses.”

The Library raised more than $700 at last year’s event and hopes to
top $750 this year. Whether you come by for a meal or a beer, Library
staff and board members will be on hand to serve you . . . and to
collect your donations.

Adults of all ages and families are welcome. The event will be held Sunday, May 5, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at O’Brien’s Pub & Grill located at 726 Main Street, Ouray, CO.

If you have any questions about the event, please e-mail OurayPL@gmail.com.

The library is ready to receive your quality donated books,
audio books, and DVDs. “We really appreciate the generous donations we receive
from the community,” said Library Director Chris Reece. “We wish we could take
everything that patrons have to give us, but we do have some restrictions are
what we are able to sell at the sale — or, in some cases, recycle.”

The library cannot accept the following items:
encyclopedias, reference books, nonfiction books more than 5 years old, coffee
table books and old magazines. Additionally, because of mold, mildew and dust,
the library cannot accept any items that have been stored in attics, garages or
basements.

Donations are accepted when the library is open (Monday
through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Items should not be left in the
hallway or by the drop box when the library is closed. If you have a donation
that you are not able to deliver when the library is open, please call the
library at 970-325-4616 and the staff will coordinate a suitable option.
