The Ouray Public Library recently
received a collection of writing books from the 2013 Annual Ouray John
Nizalowski Writing Workshop. The books include the 2014 Writer’s Market; 2014
Poet’s Market
; Tell It Slant:
Creating, Refining, and Publishing Creative Nonfiction
; Writing Down the Bones: Freeing the Writer
Within
; Writing Down Your Soul; and
Wild Mind: Living the Writer’s Life.

According to workshop
attendees, this collection of writing books was donated in memory of Mary Ann
Dismant, Mary Feirn and Kit Skelding, long-time participants of the annual
workshop, “to honor these three ladies who were a vital part of the group.”

The writing group
was formed in 2003, and although participants have changed over the years, many
have been in the group for upward of 10 years. This year’s participants
included Cynthia Brunner, David Casler, Kelvin Kent, Becky McCreary, Paul
McCreary, Carol McDermott, Gail Saunders and Barbara Torke. Nizalowski, who
leads the workshop, lived in Ouray for a few years in the early 1990s and
currently teaches literature and mass communication at Colorado
Mesa University
in Grand Junction, CO.
